I have been in a position where my supervisor insisted she knew best and that I was too anal and strict because I kept counting heads on field trips and insisting on safety. After she left kids behind on 2 field trips and I didn't come to her support, she started counting heads. Sometimes you have to sit back and let these people pay the consequences for their actions. It might not happen when you are with them, but eventually it will catch up with them. I'm so sorry you had such an awful experience.

I have found in the past that when situations were confusing such as all this, that there is always something going on behind the scenes of which we are unaware. When people's behavior confuses us, it's because they want us to be off balance and confused. Something is seriously wrong with this person named Jenny.

OldAndrew and GrannySmythe- Well done for sticking up for yourselves!

MerseyMike- Those of us who constantly criticise students, managers and of course other teachers do so because we are good at our jobs, a job that allows us to make real differences to the kids in our classes. As OldAndrew says, the fact that there are so many incompetent people working in education is a reason for the rest of us to stay put, not to quit in frustration.

Dear Merseymike,

I have met these idiots so many times and in so many schools, they only care about themselves and really couldn't give a shit if other pupils trips get wrecked or if they behave totally unprofessionally towards other teachers in front of the pupils. If they are deliberately evil or just totally incompetent is a question I will leave to the philosophers. I love teaching and I complain all the time about all the arseholes because I do care about the kids and society and the future of this country. I have no plans to leave teaching any time soon.

Why would I consider another job when:

a) I love teaching
b) I make a difference to the life opportunities of a good number of young people, often from the poorest backgrounds?

The education system in this country is a disgrace - ill-managed, anti-academic and morally bankrupt. But I do not see this as any reason to suggest that everyone who cares about education quit trying to educate. It's a good reason for people to stay in the system and fight to change it.

It would be interesting to read replies from those you constantly criticise. Maybe you are the problem?

have you ever considered that you need to work in another job?
