I get the same thing from people in cyberspace. They are idiots. Ignore them. I have stopped trying to defend myself against their accusations. If they knew anything about teaching, then they would know what you are talking about. You wrote a post I think where you say that if we complain, it automatically means we are crap and hate kids. It is ridiculous and it is a huge part of the overall problem. Keep complaining - or even just telling the story. It is part of the fight. And we fight for the kids. And we will win.

My friend was once the technician for the department I worked in. When she was a technician, kids liked her, confided in her, trusted her. However, the affection of young people can't keep you in luxury forever and she changed jobs to what amounts to a cover supervisor for double the money. Still the same nice woman, still the same kids but the difference now is that she expects them to do something that doesn't accord exactly with the whim of the moment. She has done it for a year and is now leaving because she finds the negativity and oppositional defiance [the deliberate kind, not the disorder, you understand] upsetting.

THanks for that blog. I know a friend, slieber24, had issues that because she required pupils to learn, and behave, she was considered to have "disliked" her pupils. Needless to say, at least her pupils were secure and successful. She told me once that pupils who were insecure caused the most trouble - with teachers who used the excuse you put above: they love children...which means they don't teach them anything!

Thank you again!

I sometimes liken blogging to writing a problem down on paper and then burning it as a symbol of overcoming whatever annoying obstacles are in the way of personal progress.

That said, write about what's on your mind and ignore the critics.
